[5] - Patterns Out Now!
I am pleased to announce that Patterns, the Android game Paul Gush and I have been working on, has been approved by Google and is now available on the Google Play Store!
What is Patterns?
Patterns is a free-to-play game made in the Unity Engine for Android devices. The idea was to create a game hosting mini-games that can be replayed endlessly in a similar fashion to Flappy Birds. Each game has its own high score and the player competes against themselves to beat said high score, and also hosts 16 achievements linked to the gameplay for the player to acquire.
Why was Patterns made?
Creating and publishing Patterns allowed Paul and I to gain experience managing multiple small games under one roof, how to publish an app to the Google Play Store, and incorporating other features such as a Streak System, Achievements and Advertisement. By completing and releasing Patterns, this has now become the first game that Paul and I have together released.
How long did it take to make?
The design and development started as early as March, 2021, with the bulk of the work being done in April for the gameplay and the streak system, and more recently in August for achievements and advertisements. The repository holding the game amassed a total of 401 commits! The final items for releasing Patterns included various descriptions for achievements and the store listing, updating artwork, changing from internal/remove debug elements and moving to production, and the review process for the majority of September.

What’s next?
I have teamed up with Paul and his University friend and we are in the early stages of creating a game in Unity for PC. We intend to ultimately release the game on itch.io.
